The Owners
|
Maes-y-Neuadd or "The Mansion in the Meadow" (translates literally as "The Hall in the Field"), is a wonderful old manor house that nestles on the side of a hill in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. With views down to Cardigan Bay on one side and the magnificent peaks of Snowdonia on the other, this tranquil spot offers spectacular scenery in every season.
Our home dates back to 14th Century when the estate included many thousands of acres of mountainside and forest. The house was renowned for its hospitality and was visited regularly by the travelling Bards through the centuries from 15th century to date. Indeed, many poems, songs and stories were written about the house, and the Wynn family who owned it, and references can be found in many ancient Welsh books.
Maes-y-Neuadd first became a hotel in 1953 and each of the owners including Evans, Jackson, Slatter & Horsfall and more recently, Slatter & Jackson have helped to restore the house and gardens. Peter and Lynn Jackson's partnership with June & Mike Slatter came to an end in September 2001, when the Slatters retired. Maes-y-Neuadd of today is again a family home, owned by Peter and Lynn Jackson and Doreen and Peter Payne. Peter Jackson, Chef Patron and Chairman of The Welsh National Culinary Team has spent the last fourteen years here perfecting his culinary skills and encouraging his team of award winning chefs whilst Lynn has also served an apprenticeship of some ten years in reception, administration and marketing.
Lynn's sister and brother-in-law, Doreen and Peter Payne joined the business in October 2001, and are keen to continue the restoration and maintenance of this beautiful old house. Although the estate of today is somewhat smaller, our 85 acres of parkland, meadow, vegetable gardens, orchards and walled gardens offer an abundance of herbs, fruit and vegetables together with peaceful tranquillity and relaxation for the traveller. The keywords have always been welcome, warmth and friendly service with good food and excellent wines.
We welcome families and offer family accommodation with early teas, baby listening or baby sitting for young children, alternatively families can dine together in our small dining room. Children over eight years of age are welcome to dine with their parents in the main restaurant.
The past ten years have brought us many accolades, not to mention the privilege of making so many friends amongst our guests. We all look forward to welcoming you to Maes-y-Neuadd and to making even more friends in the future!
